NUMBNESS ❗

If there’s a feeling that I crave, it’s numbness. My veins are too warm with blood to feel numb again, But if there’s a feeling that I crave, it’s numbness. Oh! To feel numb…. It is to sit amidst burning fire while watching your world turn into ashes. It is to stand on ice for hours and still not freeze to death. It is to seduce the man of death by staring into his soul. Oh! To feel numb… It is a sense without an emotion, a pain without a tear and a laugh without a joy. And if there’s a feeling that I crave, it’s numbness, because reminiscing it questions the existence of the universe.

The Language of Ants

Summers a decade ago moved as slow as a tortoise in a mid-day sun. I remember myself, swinging from the guava tree in my backyard. I spent most of my time under that tree. Sometimes swinging, sometimes looking at the ants that rented their house under the guava tree. It was so fascinating to see them, that I would feed them just to have them at my sight. I used to reach out for the broadest leaf of the tree, and lay out a banquet of sugary delights for those tiny magnificent creatures. I had a belief that ants communicate using their own language but due to their size we couldn't hear them( I grew up watching disney movies like, A BUG'S LIFE). It was not until recently, that I discovered how ants communicate. I came across this mind bogling book written by Ed Yong titled, "An Immense World". This book breaks down the chunks of information of how the animals sense the world around them, which has been termed as UMWELT. This book is a delight for my inner child. ...

I was 8 when Avatar got released and my younger self loved watching that movie, everytime it was on HBO or star movies. Probably cause she liked seeing tall blue semi-naked humans with long tresses. Cut to 2025, I rewatched it recently and was still left in awe, at how some parts of the movie was spitting facts and scientific evidences of this world. The movie has a scene where Dr. Grace Augustine goes on, to mention, how trees are capable of downloading and accessing data through their roots. Intrestingly, that not only occurs in PANDORA but around us too. You would likely find it hard to believe me if I said, "Trees have some kind of fibre optics attached in their roots, that's helping them communicate ( just like the internet)." Moreover they have named it Wood Wide Web (WWW). In 1997, Suzzane Simard gave us this groundbreaking theory, on how trees communicate and share food using WWW. Wood Wide Web is simply, the interconnectedness of trees roots with the help of fung...
BIOSPHERE II: A lesson for Mars colonization?

Lately, we’ve been seeing a lot of sensational news about the end of times, prophecies, and apocalyptic scenarios, which have led some to consider securing a plot of land on Mars. But what makes us ( us, as in Elon Musk ) believe we can colonize Mars? And if that’s the case, are we even capable of taking up the Biosphere II project? I first encountered Biosphere II in Elizabeth Kolbert's book, "The Sixth Extinction". It was named as a second world on Earth, built to prove that humanity could survive on Mars. In the late 1980s, billionaire Edward Bass funded this project, which was constructed on three hectares of land in Arizona. The infrastructure was made entirely of glass and designed like a stepped pyramid. Within its walls, they created a tropical rainforest, a sea with coral reefs, mangroves, savannah, and agricultural zones. There was also a technosphere, a system designed to manage air, water, and waste The Ocean of Bio...
